To understand why a building has damp problems we can look at a number of things. It might be as simple as faulty rainwater goods or old leaky drains. Quite common are inappropriate mortars, internal as well as external.

Traditional buildings were built with lime/earth mortars which can regulate moisture. Often in the 20th C cement and/or gypsum were used causing the building to stop “breathing”.
